about 14 years and we'll be welcoming 40 members from the u.s. marine corps, 20 members from the u.s. navy, 10 members the u.s. coast guard, where we will then partner with them and cross train them and use our techniques, reaching technical rescue and high and low rescue being demonstrated in display. we will also be having some of our u.s. navy personnel on ride-alongs with members on our ambulances, fire engines and trucks to continue with our cross training. so, it gives me great pride to be here to continue to serve as the fire chief, to welcome the military, and to say thank you to all of you. here's to an enjoyable fun-filled busy weekend. all the best, and thank you for your service. u.s. news and world report, give the cliff another name, and that would change the entire impact on its problems. the reality, though, is this. you'll pay higher taxes in all likelihood. consider these numbers from the tax policy center. middle class earners, folks with an income of $64,000, their rate increased 3 #.8% or $2,000. upper middle class folks, $108,000 in income, family of four maybe, two people working, your rate is 4.2% or $3500. if you make more than half a million, watch for a more than 5 #% hike in taxes or $15,000 tax increase. in rich land, earners of more than $2.5, an 8% increase in the rate, and this is how much more you pay. this is what they call fair and equal, dividing all the responsibility. i don't know, that's not what it looks like to me. the mainstream media says, forget it, it's not important. take whatever income you have, move the bonuses to calendar 2012, sell stock losers next year, and if you are gifting money to the kids arian grand kids, do it this year when taxes will be far lower. that's what i think. now i want to know what you think, drop m

recovery. the document warns the fiscal cliff would not only deal a heavy blow to the u.s. but might drag the global economy into recession. as for japan, the oect downgraded the outlook from 1.5% to 0.7%. they cited weak domestic demand. analysts urged the nation to compile detailed reliable plans for fiscal reform. u.s. consumer sentiment hit the highest level in more than four and a half years. researchers at analytics form the conference board say the consumer confidence index rose for a third straight month. the numbers rose to 73.7 in november, up from 73.1 in october. that's against a base value of 100 set in 1985. they say that the christmas shopping season started smoothly last weekend and the analysts are still concerned about the impact the fiscal cliff may have on consumer sentiment. the index is a key indicator of recovery and consumer spending which accounts for 70% of u.s. gross domestic product. now let's get a check on the markets. japanese stock prices are trading lower after four straight days of gains in the nikkei average is currently down half a percent at 9,375. now

. as the largest fuel consumer in the world today and by far the largest in the u.s. government, as i said, 93%, the department of defense has a special role to play, and moreover, because of our dependence on foreign sources of energy we continually send our men and women in uniform in harm's way to maintain that access to oil. the second criticism we often hear is that biofuels are too expensive. now, it is true that advanced biofuels are not yet in full production and so they can't compete with oil, since the oil market is a hundred years old, but d.o.d. investment has caused the price to drop dramatically over the last two years, and biofuels are more immune from price shots than -- than oil. there are also significant costs to traditional foreign sources of energy that are not shown at the gas pump. those costs are associated with protecting our shipping lanes and oil supplies and for over 60 years we've been trolling the -- patrolling the persian gulf, these costs for oil remain underappreciated. for our military the issue of energy security investment in biofuels is simple. d
